AnTuTu V8 Version Released: Comes With A Lot Of Improvements

To distinguish the good smartphones from bad models, the running points are an indispensable project. But the premise of this conclusion is that the running process should restore the actual use of the smartphone as much as possible. Recently, the well-known benchmark AnTuTu announced a new iterative version V8. Compared with the previous generation, the AnTuTu V8 has made a lot of optimization and upgrades for CPU, GPU, storage and UX test projects.

In December last year, AnTuTu released the latest V7 version. But after nearly 10 months, the smartphone industry has undergone great changes. Both hardware and software have ushered in innovation. As the mainstream running software, AnTuTu must also develop a more complete running strategy for these changes, and the AnTuTu V8 version is born for this purpose.

AnTuTu V8 Improvements

With the development of GPU performance and the improvement of game quality requirements, the Vulkan interface, which is better at 3D rendering, came into being. Nowadays, more and more mobile games are rendered by Vulkan, and Android 7.0 (API 24) has been fully Vulkan technology. So, if you want to test the performance of a mobile game, you have to see if it can better support Vulkan.

In the GPU test section, the latest AnTuTu V8 version adds a Terracotta Warrior scene. The Terracotta scene was developed natively using Vulkan technology, and the pressure is the largest among the three GPU test scenarios. It is mainly used to examine the GPU performance of heavy games developed natively using Vulkan technology. In our actual experience, even the iQOO equipped with the Snapdragon 855 will feel a little difficulty in this scene.

In addition, the coastline scene was upgraded from the V7 version of OpenGL ES 3.1 to Vulkan technology. But the screen display is consistent with the previous one, mainly used to examine the Vulkan game performance of the GPU under medium and high pressure.

The refinery scenario is still an open project for OpenGL ES 3.2 (or 3.1+AEP).

In addition to the pursuit of picture quality, the smoothness of use is also a key point that cannot be ignored.

The UX test is a ‘traditional project’ for AnTuTu, which includes data security, data processing, image processing, and experience. It can be considered as a fluency test to some extent.

In the latest version of AnTuTu V8, UX added an assessment of the screen physical refresh rate. So the higher the refresh rate, the higher the score – this rule is basically consistent with our actual experience.

In addition, CPU and storage performance has a huge impact on the phone experience.

On the CPU side, the AnTuTu V8 version upgraded some of the algorithms optimized the support for the new ARM platform for large, medium and small core architectures, and adjusted the pressure distribution.

What else?

In terms of storage, the new version divides the test into two parts: memory and storage, which not only considers the hardware Direct I/O performance, but also the vendor’s optimization of the system. At the same time, total memory/storage, available memory/storage will also affect the score to some extent.

It can be foreseen that different running points of the same type of memory chip, running points of different storage versions of the same smartphone, and running points of different smartphones of different use stages may be different. But think about it, the difference is really reasonable.

In fact, not only AnTuTu but most of the current running sub-platforms are constantly improving, to more objectively reflect the actual experience of smartphones, to provide consumers with a higher reference value of data.
