Samsung Galaxy A50 Is The Most Selling Smartphone In Europe

Recently, Canalys released a report concerning the second-quarter sales in the European Smartphone market. It turns out Samsung has won back its popularity and ranks first. Huawei is the second, and Apple is the third. Xiaomi also entered the top 5, ranking fourth. The overall smartphone market dropped a little, from 45.2 million units of last year to 45.1 million units in 2019. Interestingly, Samsung could use the trade war between China and the US, and could get a 40.6% market share. Huawei’s market share dropped from 22.4% to 18.8%. And Apple’s market share dropped from 17% to 14.1%.

However, it’s interesting to know which models won the race because Apple’s iPhone is considered to be a high-end handset priced accordingly. And it has nothing in common with the low-end and mid-range Android smartphones that cost a song.

Among the top five models in terms of shipments, Apple also has a model on the list. The company’s iPhone XR shipped 1.8 million units in Europe in the second quarter, ranking fifth. Samsung won the first, second and fourth places. Those three phones are the Galaxy A50, Galaxy A40, and Galaxy A20e. Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 7 ranked second, with shipments of 2 million units.

The top 5 sales charts highlight the relationship between European market share and equipment prices, and Apple is fighting against lower-priced devices. The iPhone XR ranked fifth in the UK is priced at 749 pounds (about $950); the price of the Samsung Galaxy A50 is only 288 pounds (about $348); the price of A40 is 219 pounds (about $264); the price of the A20e is £158 (about $191), while the price of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is only £123 (about $149).

In a recent earnings report, Apple said that the iPhone’s global revenues have fallen, from $29.9 billion in the same period last year to $26 billion. As Apple no longer announces shipments data of equipment, it is unclear whether the specific reason for this decline in revenue is due to a decline in shipments or a change in average selling price.
